- BAWA Island
BAWA Island
Bawa island was a magical place to surf and explore I first traveled there in 1994. On the way to Bawa our little fisherman boat broke down and we drifted lost at sea for 3 days, (with zero ability to communicate with any type of help) we made a sail with a wind tarp and sailed back to the main island of Nias. we reached a bay and a little boy in a dug out canoe came out to rescue our farrel sun bleached scurvy crew. we hitched a ride on the back of a dump truck filled w coconuts and bigs in bamboo cages. Determined to surf the beautiful remote waves of Bawa we made a mission to return another route and made it there. On bawa at the time there was only one hut on stilts where the friendly Indonesian man named German let us stay. This trip was one ofmy first major surf adventures.
